Former Real Madrid star Kaka has revealed that leaving the club was the best memory of
his spell in the ๐ Spanish capital.
The Brazilian superstar made a ยฃ60.3million move from
AC Milan to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2009 arriving in the ๐ same window as Cristiano
Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso.
Boss Manuel Pellegrini was handed an
embarrassment of riches in the ๐ hope of closing the gap to Pep Guardiola's Barcelona who
had been crowned European champions the previous season.
Kaka made an ๐ encouraging start
to life in Madrid after six successful years in Milan but the Brazilian's form began to
dip following ๐ the arrival of Jose Mourinho as manager in 2010.
He quickly slipped down
the pecking order under Portuguese coach who preferred ๐ Mesut Ozil and Angel Di
Maria.
It was all a far cry from his 2007 Ballon d'Or success as Kaka looked ๐ like a
shell of the player that donned the red and black of AC Milan.
Kaka recently admitted
that whilst he ๐ holds no ill-feeling towards the club, the best moment of his time in
Madrid was the day he left the ๐ club.
"It may sound strange, but I prefer the day that
it was confirmed that I was leaving," Kaka told Marca.
"I ๐ spoke with Florentino, and he
told me that they saw me as a great professional who had done everything possible ๐ to
achieve great results in Madrid. But the injuries and the few minutes that the coach
gave me did not ๐ allow it.
"That was a great satisfaction because I felt that the doors
of the club were open. That is why ๐ you will never hear me speak ill of Madrid or Josรฉ
Mourinho. In fact, when I met Florentino in the ๐ Champions League final in Paris this
year, we embraced."
Kaka exited the Santiago Bernabeu in 2013 after making 120
appearances while ๐ chipping in with 29 goals and 39 assists.
He went on to rejoin AC
Milan for a year before calling time ๐ on his career after a three-year spell in MLS with
Orlando City.
