Ship it to Sweden. Simon Eric Mattsson made a name for himself as one of the premier online grinders over5️⃣ the last few years, playing under the moniker of "C. Darwin2", and the Swedish pro added a World Series of5️⃣ Poker gold bracelet to his collection after being the last player standing in an epic nine-flight Main Event championship for5️⃣ the global version of the 2024 WSOP Online.
GGPoker hosted the 2024 WSOP Online, which included 33 bracelet events. This year's5️⃣ festival of online poker -- under the WSOP brand -- attracted over 131,000 entrants all over the world (minus the5️⃣ US!). A total ofR$86.1 million were paid out over 33 events during the last month.
Of course, everyone was waiting for5️⃣ the outcome of the prestigious WSOP Online Main Event. TheR$5,000 buy-in affair was spread out over nine starting flights. In5️⃣ total, 4,984 entrants bought into the Main Event with their eye on the bling and a mountain of cash. The5️⃣ total prize pool wasR$23,674,000 and only the top 500 places earned a cut of the lucrative prize pool.
The Main Event5️⃣ final table of nine included Simon Mattsson, Kannapong Thanarattrakul, Feng Zhao, Samuel Vousden, Istvan Briski, Yanfei Chi, Jordan Spurlin, Oliver5️⃣ Sprason, and Tim Rutherford. Italy's Gabriele Re bubbled the final table in tenth place. American pro Joe Cheong busted in5️⃣ 11th place.
Canada's Tim Rutherford was the first player to bust at the final table, and he earnedR$279,357 for a ninth-place5️⃣ finish.
Oliver Sprason from the UK bowed out next in eighth place, which paid outR$372,529.
Canada's Jordan Spurlin was the next player5️⃣ out in seventh place, which paid outR$496,774 and just short of a half million.
Two players from China went deep in5️⃣ the Main Event. Yanfei Chi busted in sixth place, which paid outR$662,459.
Istvan Briski's epic run ended in fifth place. The5️⃣ Hungarian bankedR$883,404.
The top four places took home at least seven figures. Finland's Samuel Vousden wonR$1.18 million when he was picked5️⃣ off in fourth place.
China's Feng Zhao got knocked out in third place, which paid outR$1.57 million. Zhao's elimination set up5️⃣ the heavyweight bout between Thailand and Sweden.
Kannapong Thanarattrakul could not stop the Swedish superstar and settled on a second-place finish.5️⃣ Thanarattrakul won a little overR$2 million for a runner-up finish. Not too shabby, eh?
Simon Mattsson bankedR$2,793,574 and the bracelet. The5️⃣ bling is cool, but the cash is the reason why you grind it out and work so hard enduring the5️⃣ bad beats and long sessions. Expect a couple of big parties in Sweden in the upcoming days with Mattsson celebrating5️⃣ his WSOP Online victory.
