On October 13, 2024, Microsoft officially announced that Xbox has acquired Activision Blizzard King following the end of the lengthy 633-day process, welcoming all the publisher’s studios and popular IPs, such as Call of Duty, Overwatch, and Diablo, among others to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios.
Now that the deal has come to an end, CoD fans are eagerly anticipating the potential benefits of this merger for their beloved series. Is Call of Duty coming to Xbox Game Pass?
Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, Call of Duty will make its way to Xbox Game Pass.
The Xbox Game Pass X account shared that they’ve started the work to bring Activision Blizzard’s games, including the iconic CoD franchise and Diablo 4, to the service. They’ll be sharing more details “in the coming months.”

When is Call of Duty coming to Xbox Game Pass?
Activision Blizzard “do not have any plans to put Modern Warfare 3 and Diablo IV into the Game Pass this year,” but they confirmed in an X post on October 9 that they will work alongside Xbox to bring the company’s titles to the service “sometime in the course of next year [2024].”

Speaking on the Xbox Podcast on October 17, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer reaffirmed the 2024 release window, telling players not to expect any surprise drops this year.
“The regulatory process took so long and frankly there was a lot of uncertainty in that process up until, really, a week before we closed, or the week of, when the CMA finally came down to their decision, that we weren’t able to get in and work with mostly Activision Blizzard in this case on that back catalog work,” he explained. “I would love it if there was some kind of secret celebration drop that’s coming in the next couple of weeks—there’s not.”

With the deal’s closure, many CoD fans are interested to know if classic CoD titles will be added to the Xbox Game Pass. While there’s been no official confirmation yet, the significant matchmaking fixes plus the ownership transfer to Microsoft, make this entirely possible to happen.
