Lordi Reel Monsters Review
We’re certainly not experts in the heavy metal genre, but
it’s pretty obvious that the Finnish ensemble 🤑 that calls themselves Lordi is a highly
unusual band. Not only did they become the first Finnish band to win 🤑 Eurovision (in
2006), but this also made them the first heavy metal band ever to achieve that feat.
Their winning 🤑 song is called “Hard Rock Hallelujah”, and you get to hear it, amongst
others, in this branded Play’n Go release 🤑 called Lordi Reel Monsters.
Lordi consists of
5 band members, and they’re famous for wearing monster masks and horror-inspired
outfits in 🤑 all their performances. The 7x7 grid is set in a misty graveyard, and you
get plenty of band member animations 🤑 and audiovisual effects to liven things up. Mr
Lordi himself (aka lead singer Tomi Petteri Putaansuu) is seen on the 🤑 left, and on the
right is the all-important Monster Charger that leads to modifiers and eventually the
bonus rounds.

Features
You win by landing 5 to 15+ matching symbols in a cluster 🤑 anywhere on the
grid, and winning symbols are removed via the Cascading mechanic. New and/or existing
symbols drop down to 🤑 fill the gaps, and this leads to indefinite repeat wins on the
same spin. The 5 band member premium symbols, 🤑 consisting of Mana, Hiisi, Amen, Hella
and Mr Lordi, pay 100 to 250 x your stake for 15+ in a 🤑 cluster. The horned skull Wild
does not pay anything on its own, but steps in for pay symbols to help 🤑 create cluster
wins.
All winning symbols are collected in the Monster Charger seen on the right-hand
side, and each winning symbol 🤑 charges the meter by +1. You need to collect 15 symbols
to unleash a Monster modifier, and filling the meter 🤑 with 40 collected symbols awards
the Bonus Round. The Monster modifier is awarded at the end of the cascading sequence,
🤑 and the band member specific modifier is randomly chosen:
Mr Lordi - spreads 5 to 8
wilds randomly across the grid.
- 🤑 spreads 5 to 8 wilds randomly across the grid. Hella
- removes all symbols except wilds and 1-2 symbol types.
- 🤑 removes all symbols except
wilds and 1-2 symbol types. Amen - transforms 2 to 5 symbol types to different symbol
🤑 types.
- transforms 2 to 5 symbol types to different symbol types. Hiisi - creates a
winning cluster from a randomly 🤑 selected symbol.
- creates a winning cluster from a
randomly selected symbol. Mana - turns a random symbol type into wilds.
The 🤑 Bonus Round
is triggered when you collect 40 winning symbols in the same cascading sequence, and
you get only 1 🤑 free spin. However, you can choose 2 different modes, and each mode
comes with guaranteed modifiers that are bound to 🤑 prolong the bonus round of your
choice:
Lordi Reel Monsters Slot - Free Spins
The ‘Reel Monster’ Bonus Round comes with
a 🤑 win multiplier that starts at x1, and the multiplier increases by +1 per cascading
win. What prolongs the feature is 🤑 the fact that you’re guaranteed 2 Monster modifier
triggers.
The ‘Better Hate Than Never’ Bonus Round comes with 3 guaranteed Monster
🤑 modifier triggers, and all winning wilds are collected. Once all 3 monster modifiers
have played out, collected wilds are added 🤑 onto the grid in batches of 5 to 10 at a
time. This goes on until all wilds are used 🤑 up.
The 200 Spins Lordi Reel Monsters Slot
Experience
Our 5:33-minute highlights video starts in the middle of the action, just as
🤑 a longer cascading sequence takes us all the way to the bonus round. We went with the
Better Hate Than 🤑 Never feature first, and then we try our luck with the Reel Monster
bonus round at 3:41 into the video. 🤑 You can see it all for yourself by hitting the play
button below.
Review Summary
Play’n Go has done a great job 🤑 capturing the ambiguous
spirit of this rather weird Finnish cult band. They’re kind of hard to take seriously
as a 🤑 heavy metal band, but the 2006 Eurovision victory proved that they’re capable of
producing catchy hit songs in their own 🤑 unique and highly strange way. The audiovisual
presentation is engaging, even for non-fans like this reviewer, and the game follows
🤑 the typical Play’n Go grid slot recipe.
This can be good or bad, depending on whether
or not you’re craving innovation, 🤑 but at least it’s highly unusual to only get 1 free
spin when the bonus round triggers. It’s not all 🤑 that hard to collect 40 winning
symbols though, and both features come with guaranteed modifiers to prolong the
cascading action. 🤑 The band is still active to this day, although well past their prime,
and this branded effort is definitely worth 🤑 a whirl or two even if you know nothing
about the band from before.
